Standard compact road chainsets don't offer the low gears you'll when climbing, especially if your bike is fully laden with bike packing gear. With a 30T bottom gear working in conjunction with a wide-range cassette, you'll have plenty of gears for steep gravel climbs, while the 46T outer ring will give you plenty of speed on the road and on the way back down.
